چکیده

— Electing leader is a vital issue not only in distributed computing but also in communication network [1, A leader is required to make synchronization between different processes. And different election algorithms are used to elect a coordinator among the available processes in the system such a way that there will be only one coordinator at any time. Bully election algorithm is one of the classical and well-known approaches in coordinator election process. This paper will present a modified version of bully election algorithm using a new concept called election commission. This approach will not only reduce redundant elections but also minimize total number of elections and hence it will minimize message passing, network traffic, and complexity of the existing system.

An Efficient Approach of Election Algorithm in Distributed Systems

In this paper, I have proposed an election algorithm that can be used in distributed systems to elect a coordinator. This is a betterment of an already existing Election algorithm (also known as Bully Algorithm) proposed by Hector Garcia-Monila (1982).The proposed algorithm is an efficient approach than Bully Algorithm.

Leader Election in Distributed Systems with Crash Failures

Leader election is an important problem in distributed computing. Garcia-Molina's Bully Algorithm is a classic solution to leader election in synchronous systems with crash failures. This paper shows that the Bully Algorithm can be easily adapted for use in asynchronous systems. First, we re-write the Bully Algorithm to use a failure detector, instead of explicit time-outs; this yields a modula...

Technical Report no . 2008 : 7 A Semi - Automatic Correctness Proof Procedure applied to Stoller ’ s Leader Election Algorithm

In 1997, Stoller presented a leader election algorithm for a synchronous system with crash failures. The algorithm is an adaptation of Garcia-Molina’s Bully Algorithm that uses failure detectors instead of explicit timeouts. Since the characteristics of the algorithm closely resemble the Bully Algorithm Stoller does not give a formal correctness proof. However, although the algorithms appear si...

The Election Protocol for Reconfigurable Distributed Systems

The Election paradigm can be used as a building block in many practical problems such as group communication, atomic commit and replicated data management where a protocol coordinator might be useful. The problem has been widely studied in the research community since one reason for this wide interest is that many distributed protocols need an election protocol. However, despite its usefulness,...

Enhanced Bully Algorithm for Leader Node Election in Synchronous Distributed Systems

In distributed computing systems, if an elected leader node fails, the other nodes of the system need to elect another leader. The bully algorithm is a classical approach for electing a leader in a synchronous distributed computing system. This paper presents an enhancement of the bully algorithm, requiring less time complexity and minimum message passing. This significant gain has been achieve...
